| $@%&! level: Low “Bedroom” level: None Violence level: Medium-Low (laser guns and fist fights, but the magic traps are the most deadly) Back Cover: “Three wanderers. Three exiles. Three quests linked together between the moon of three rings. Maelen: Exiled Thassa sorceress, stealer-of-bodies, Moon Singer; she returns to her forbidden home seeking renewal and redemption. Krip Vorlund: Telepathic starman in a Forerunner's body, he seeks to stop pirates from plundering the galaxy's most ancient heritage, and most fearsome weapons. Farree: A hunchbacked child with no memory of a past nor hope for a future, his only friend a venomous hunting pet; he seeks his Wanderers turned companions, they are exiles turned champions on a single path to three destinies.” |
So, with the understanding that it's very sequel-like...it's still not exactly brilliant. I do rather enjoy it once Farree grows his wings (that would be a spoiler except that it's drawn right there on the cover), and they make very clever use of Farree's venomous, semi-telepathic little friend. It does seem like the solution to every single problem is Maelen's magic—except when the problem is that Maelen is exhausted. There's plenty of action to keep things interesting, and Farree does manage to play in important role. I guess the conjunction between science fiction and fantasy just didn't quite make it this time.
Needless to say, I'm afraid this one has been knocked off my list of favorites.
